Road Rehabilitation and Bridge Reconstruction Project on Ruger Avenue Scheduled to Begin approximately May 20
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WDOT) has scheduled a pavement rehabilitation and bridge replacement project on Ruger Avenue from the I-90 bridge to Wright Road for this Spring/Summer. Road rehabilitation and bridge replacement activities are expected to begin on approximately May 20th and continue through approximately the end of September, 2010.
The street rehabilitation portion of this project is a direct result of the American Relief and Recovery Act of 2009 or better known as the Federal Stimulus Program, and will consist of total curb and gutter replacement, removal of a portion of the existing asphalt and concrete pavements, followed by placement of a new asphalt pavement. The roadway rehab portion of the project will be funded with nearly 100% federal funds. The bridge replacement portion has been planned for a number of years and will be funded with 80% federal and 20% local funds. The total project cost is estimated at approximately $1.6 million.
To expedite the utility relocation work and the bridge/road work, Ruger Avenue between Pontiac Drive and Wright Road will be closed to through traffic from approximately May 20th until project completion anticipated for late September, 2010. Access to the day care and local residences will be maintained except during placement and curing of new concrete. A detour route for through traffic will be provided using Wright Road, E. Milwaukee Street, and Pontiac Drive. Side street access to and from Ruger Avenue within the construction limits will not be available during construction. Residents in subdivisions north and south of Ruger Avenue between Greendale Drive and Wright Road that typically use Ruger Avenue are asked to use an alternate route during the road closure.
Access to the bike trail at Ruger Avenue will not be provided during construction. An on-street detour route for bike trail users will be provided using Palmer Drive and S. Wright Road.
The JTS Wright Road bus route will be modified during the road closure. The normal west bound Ruger Avenue leg from Wright Road to Pontiac Drive will not be served while the road is closed. During the road closure, from northbound Wright Road the bus will continue past Stuart Street and turn left (west) on Milwaukee Street, then left (south) on Pontiac Drive and right (west) on Ruger Avenue to resume the normal route. The bus stop for Mercy Clinic East will be directly across the street from the bus shelter on Wright Road during the detour.
